Director of Dragons Rugby Dean Ryan admits he is delighted to bring Wales international Sam Davies to Dragons – insisting it is the perfect time for the fly half to step up in his career.
One of Ryan’s first moves at the region was to conclude a move for playmaker Davies.
And speaking at a media conference to unveil the fly half, Ryan revealed how he wants Davies to grasp the opportunity to help shape the team.
“It’s a crucial signing for us and I won’t hide my delight about it. It’s the right signing for us – not just we want something now.
“Sam is here for the right reasons and it’s the right time too. I always meet those people I want to be influential and I did that with Sam.
“We start with a blank piece of paper this season and we mould it around individuals over the coming years.
“There is plenty of exciting talent here, but it does need pointing in a direction. Sam’s influence and where he is in his career, this is the time for him.
“It’s very good news early in the process,” added Ryan. “Sam has a good solid opinion of what he wants to do in the game. I didn’t want somebody who was still shaping that in their mind.
“Now is the time for Sam to have his opinion, say where it sits and influence others.
“It’s exciting that players can influence and shape our direction of travel. The time is now right for Sam and ourselves to do that.“
