The Dragons Community department delivers a diverse and innovative range of community initiatives thanks to the support of our partners.
MAKING A REAL IMPACT WITHIN THE DRAGONS REGION
Whilst we are proud of our achievements in the busy world of community activities, we are very aware that without the high level of support we receive from our partners we simply couldn’t deliver our programmes to the high standards that we achieve.
We are delighted that our local & regional primary/junior schools have invested in the community to support us with the delivery of Gateway Rugby. The project provides many memorable experiences for the pupils, both in and out of the classroom, and without the wholehearted backing from the schools, we would not be where we are today.
Tata Steel have again invested in supporting our outreach projects throughout the region where they make a positive impact on so many youngsters. The annual Tag finals day has become a real highlight for the teams that make it into the grand finale on the top-class pitch at Rodney Parade in front of a bumper crowd at half time of a Dragons match.
Castell Howell have also shown commitment to the Community Department, through sponsorship of our official mascot, 'Rodney the Dragon'. Rodney is often the main attraction and loves the limelight whilst out on his community visits.
Long term partner, Melin Homes always embrace our objectives and are fully committed to supporting our community activation around the region and really care about providing inspiring opportunities for our regional youngsters.
Western Power Distribution has also maintained their support of our thriving community activities. They understand what we are trying to achieve and their support ensures that we are delivering those goals to disadvantaged young people.
We are also proud to retain the support of Wilko for the match day guard of honour, providing a really attractive opportunity for our youngsters. Keep an eye out for the new Wilko flag that will be waved with pride by thousands of our match day community guests.
The mascot package is always a special occasion for the lucky mascot who leads out the Dragons at each home match. Coleg Gwent provides this memorable experience and also visits the mascots school post-match to present a signed fames photo of the mascot and Dragons captain in assembly to provide the icing on the cake.
Our partnership with Value Added Education has gained notable accolades from pupils and teachers alike over the past year for inspiring our youngsters to develop their digital competency through our innovative interactive education experience at Rodney Parade & at our training base at the CCB Centre of Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach.
Newport City Homes are proud sponsors of Dragons Phoenix - our successful homeless rugby team. The Homeless Rugby Team is a touch rugby team made up homeless or previously homeless people and was established in the 2015/16 season. The team has gone from strength to strength, providing many memorable moments and we are very proud of this provision. For more information click HERE
We are thrilled with our partnership with New York Welsh who proudly support Dragons ALLSTARS. The Dragons ALLSTARS is a new mixed ability rugby team established to provide opportunities disabled & non-disabled players to play contact or non-contact rugby together. For more information click HERE
We are also proud of our links with Active Gwent and our local Authority Sports departments who help us extend our support across the whole region through implementing our innovative ways to engage our supporters.
