Wing wonder Jared Rosser has set his sights on providing even more firepower out wide this season – and believes Dragons know the standards they must hit.
Dragons Academy product Rosser – who has scored 13 tries in 40 appearances – enjoyed some memorable moments in the 2018/19 campaign.
The 21-year-old scored a stunning long range effort against Ospreys on derby day and also grabbed a dream try double against Edinburgh at Rodney Parade.
The Abergavenny-born back is looking to take his game to new heights and impress new Director of Dragons Rugby Dean Ryan.
And he believes the players need look further than the Judgement Day win over Scarlets for the benchmark.
“It’s a big season for me and my focus is on pushing for the No.1 slot on the wing,” he said.
“My main goal is to play as much as possible. Last season had its ups and downs, but it was nice to finish with a win and show what we are all about.
“That win on Judgement Day was massive for us, it put smiles on faces for the summer, and now it is all about building on that level of performance.
“It’s vital to impress in pre-season,” added Rosser. “We don’t really know Dean yet and he doesn’t know us.
“I’m sure he has come in with an open mind about all of us and we are all fighting for each spot.
“There is a lot of weights and fitness at the moment before we pick up with the rugby when we come back for the second block.”
As for the pre-season schedule, Rosser has enjoyed both the intensity and the variety – but insists there will be no switching from the rugby field to the pool long-term!
“We’ve had some interesting days away from Ystrad,” he laughed. “When we were told we were in five days a week there were a few worried faces, but it’s been organised really well.
“The boys have enjoyed getting away off site, doing something new and bonding together.
“We’ve been doing all kinds of fitness, whether that is Mixed Martial Arts, spin classes or even going down Tav’s gym and then the café run by Hibbz to recover.
“I’m going to leave the spin and aqua aerobics for now though and concentrate on the rugby.
“I’ve really enjoyed pre-season,” he added. “It’s been good to get back in, see the boys and get to know the new lads too.
“We’ve had a big weight training focus this block to get us nice and strong before we pick up the running and rugby when we get back.”
