Kingsley - Time To Build Momentum

Skills Coach Alan Kingsley has called on Dragons to start building momentum when they face Timisoara Saracens in the European Challenge Cup at Rodney Parade on Friday night (kick-off 7.30pm).

Ben Mottram | 09/01/2019

Dragons face the Romanian side in Round 5 eager to start 2019 on the front foot on home soil – after a thrilling derby win over Ospreys in the last home appearance.

And Kingsley – who revealed fly half Gavin Henson could also be set to make his comeback in the game – insists building a winning mentality at home in the coming weeks was crucial for a strong second half of the season.

“It is all about momentum. We have Clermont after this and then Munster which is a really big one. Big games we will look to target,” he said.

“We have taken a massive step forward the last few weeks and it is about looking after our own performance now and adding another layer to bring more confidence to the squad.

“Every game is about building momentum, but this one especially. We respect Timisoara, but we will be going out to try and impose our game on them, move the ball around and get some confidence in our squad.

“There will be changes to the team this week – some of them enforced and some of them because lads deserve their chance,” he added.

“We will concentrate on ourselves, like we do every week, and look to improve.

“We will look at Timisoara and respect them as a team. We know what they are going to bring, they are looking for a first win in Europe so we aware of that challenge.

“But we need to tick our boxes, look after our game and the people who get the chance will hopefully sick up their hand and take it.”

Dragons won 54-17 when the teams met in western Romania in October and Kingsley believes Timisoara will look to pose a big threat.

“They were physical when we played them last time, they are big boys and they have a go,” he said.

“They like to play a direct game and they are not afraid to play. We even saw some trick plays against Clermont.

“They have nothing to lose against us. They will come here all guns blazing trying to get a scalp. We have to be careful of them.”
