Reaction: Win Gives Dragons Momentum

Dragons Backs Coach Shaun Connor says his team will take the positives of victory from tonight's win against Enisei.

Martyn Bicknall | 08/12/2017

"After last week’s performance where we played well, it’s probably a step backwards tonight, but it’s a victory so we’ll take the positives out of it.

"Enisei came here tonight with a game plan and they played it well, by trying to take momentum of the game and slowing it down.

"Dan Babos and Arwel Robson wouldn’t have been used to that kind of game. It was physical and they priobably like a more flowing, running game. But tonight was a battle and they will be better for it.

"We’re disappointed to not get the bonus point, but we go on to Newcastle next week and if we can win that game it sets us up for the double header against Bordeaux.

"We’re on 10 points now after 3 games and 20 points is generally a good figure to qualify for the knockouts so a couple wins with bonuses or three wins and we’ll be there, still challenging for a knockout place."

The Dragons four Wales November internationals sat out the match, but Connor expects them to come back into contention for the upcoming games against Newcastle Falcons and the Welsh derbies over Christmas.

"Leon is still going through his protocol, but the other three Welsh internationals will start training with the group on Monday and a lot will depend on if they’ve got over their bumps and bruises and if so they will be in the mix for selection.

With news that Jordan Williams signed for the Dragons to follow Rhodri Williams and Ross Moriarty and a string of young Dragons products who have committed their future to the region, Connor admitted there was a buzz around the Dragons that he hadnt experienced before.

"I’m a Gwent boy and I’ve never known it like this," said Shaun. "Bernard has come in as a breath of fresh air and he’s stated what he wants to do here and he’s acting on it.

"His vision is achievable and he’s obviously a good salesman as he’s meeting these players and they are signing for us. Long may it continue."
