YOUNG DRAGONS TRY THE ARMY LIFE

Dragons Under 16 and Under 18 squad got a taste of army life last weekend as they went on a three-day training camp to Baker Barracks in Portsmouth.

Jason Tovey, Skills Coach for the Under 16 side accompanied the up and coming rugby players as they undertook team-building exercises and an intensive physical training course with the army instructors before rugby training with their age-grade coaches.

“This is an important part of the regional age-grade calendar and is vital preparation for the forthcoming age-grade season,” said Dragons Academy Manager Will Thomas. “As the players all come from different clubs and schools across the region, the three-day camp allow them further team-building time to bond which will hopefully shine through in their performances on the pitch.

“The physical training with the army instructors was particularly useful as due to the intensive nature, it enabled coaches to identify players who responded positively to the sort of physical challenges which are part of life as a senior rugby player.”
