The Dragons Under 18 side started their pre-season campaign with an excellent victory by 5-16 win over a senior Cross Keys Utd team at Pandy Park on Friday night (7 August)

The game was played over 3 periods of 25 minutes where a number of players were used for further identification going into the regional Under 18 championships.

The Dragons players, many of whom are still 17 years of age, were not in anyway daunted by the size and experience of the Cross Keys opposition and were the superior side throughout the game.

The first period finished 0 - 0 with both sides having chances - kicks at goal just going wide of the mark, but the young dragons would have felt the better having dominated the set pieces and the breakdown area.

The second period started with the dragons gaining in confidence. Outside half Josh Prosser kicked a penalty on 35 minutes to give the young dragons a well deserved lead, but the Keys hit back soon after on 45 minutes with a well worked try to take the lead 5 - 3. Immediately after the restart the dragons forced a penalty and again Josh Prosser slotted over to end the second period in front 6 - 5.

Going into the third period the Dragons coaches made a number of changes to give the whole squad run out. The Dragons started nervously and the Keys took advantage, camping out in the Dragons 22, but the defence held and they finally had the will power to get out of their own half and in doing so hammering the last nail in the coffin of Keys. Outside half Prosser again slotting over a penalty on 65 minutes which he then followed up with a kick and chase try on the stroke of full time which he converted to take his and his teams score to a 16 – 5 victory.

The young Dragons Management were delighted with the commitment, attitude and determination in the manner of the victory and although there is still room for improvement it sets them on the right road.

The next warm up game for the young dragons is against Filton College away on the 20th August, followed by their first Regional Championship game at home against the Ospreys to be played at Cross Keys RFC on the 26th August ( 7.15pm)
