Newport Gwent Dragons are delighted to confirm that they will hold a 7s tournament at Rodney Parade on Sunday August 12th in support of the St David's Foundation.

Title sponsors to the event and pledging their support to the competition are Uskmouth Power. Uskmouth are involved with The Dragons community projects and speaking on why they have decided to support this event Deputy Station Manager David Watkins said, "Uskmouth Power aims to contribute to the community in Newport and to help foster excellence in Wales, and we are delighted to sponsor an event that not only focuses on the local community and showcases the best rugby players in the area, but also supports the vital and excellent services provided by St David's Hospice Care."

Rodney Parade last hosted a 7s tournament when the IRB 7s in 2001 were played, however, since then no 7s tournament has graced the hallowed turf.

The "Uskmouth Power Men of Gwent 7s" tournament is aimed at the top teams in Gwent and the up and coming academy who have produced excellent players such as Ashley Smith, Jamie Corsi, Alex Walker and Lewis Evans.

Rivalries are certain to be at the fore with each team competing for the crown of Uskmouth Power Men of Gwent 7s Champion. Confirmed to take part along with the academy are Ebbw Vale, Newport, NHSOB, Bedwas / Blackwood, Newbridge, Caerphilly, Abergavenny, Pontypool Utd, Cross Keys and Newport Saracens.

The Welsh 7s rugby side has made a welcome return on the international circuit with Dragons assistant coach Dai Rees head coach to the side.  He will be involved on the day coaching the Dragons Academy side. Speaking on the announcement of the Uskmouth Power Men of Gwent tournament he commented, "I am really pleased that Rodney Parade will host a 7s tournament. Not only is 7s great for a players development but is also a fascinating spectacle. I am looking forward to seeing Gwent's top players in action and assessing their 7s ability. Like all men of Gwent I enjoy the local derbies that can produce excitement and upsets and fans can expect plenty of that in the 7s tournament."

As well as a day of rugby to enjoy there will also be entertainment for all the family as incorporated into the event is the annual Dragons Family Fun Day and there will be bouncy castles, face painting and other activities to keep the younger members of the family amused.

The tournament is being organised by The Dragons but will support the St. David's Foundation Hospice Care as they aim to raise the profile of the charity. Adrian Hadley speaking on behalf of St David's said, "St David's provides hospice care to over 2400 patients and families every year in their own homes. We are thrilled to be involved in this partnership as it will help raise valuable funds which we need to continue to care and support our patients and families. Having played in the Snelling sevens and been part of some memorable battles, I am looking forward to again seeing a quality 7 aside tournament at Rodney Parade".

Tickets are priced at £5 for adults and £1 for children and will be available from the Rodney Parade ticket office (01633) 674990
