The Dragons under 16s gave the Blues North a run for their money in last night's  WRU Reebok Regional Championship pool game at Abercynon.

Having struggled throughout this season's competition, the Dragons helped themselves to four tries before finally falling 35-20 to the North.

Ian Smerdon, James Woods and Lloyd Peart put the hosts into a 25-5 lead with Dean Gunter and Chris Phillips adding second half tries.

However, the Dragons scored first half tries from Jack Flower and Chris Attwell with Craig Howell and Chris Moseley scoring after the interval.

In the other game, Blues South gained an honourable draw, 17-17, against the Scarlets at Narberth. Steffan Phillips and Rhys Gingell crossed for tries for the home region with James Stephenson adding two conversion and a penalty for good measure.

However, Blues South who are rooted to the foot of the table, grabbed a share thanks to tries from Dan Fish and Ed Doe plus two conversions and a penalty from Loren Quick.

The final will take place at Rodney Parade on February 27th.
