Ahead of tomorrow's Worthington's Challenge Trophy, we've selected three dangermen to look out for from the boys from down west.
Johnny McNicholl
Full back Johnny McNicholl has enjoyed a stunning spell at Parc y Scarlets since his arrival in 2016 and is tipped as a potential Wales star of the future. McNicholl impressed with New Zealand provincial side Canterbury and the Crusaders in Super Rugby before moving to Wales. The full back was a potent attacking force in the region's title triumph and crossed for a superb hat-trick of tries in the PRO14 final defeat to Leinster in Dublin the following year. McNicholl was nominated for the PRO14 player of the season in 2018/19 after a campaign that saw him finish as one the competition's top try-scorers. Qualifies for Wales at the end of 2019.
Staff Evans
Wales international Steff Evans first burst onto the scene during the Scarlets' title-winning campaign, earning himself a first international cap on the summer tour that followed in 2017. An elusive runner with an eye for the try line, Evans has a blistering side-step that has seen him become a regular the top of the Guinness PRO14 stats charts. Evans was part of the Wales squad that clinched the 2019 Grand Slam and part of the World Cup training camp.
Angus O’Brien
Fly half Angus O’Brien needs little introduction to fans at Dragons after making 70 appearances for the region before making the switch to Scarlets ahead of the 2018-19 season. A Wales Under-20s international, O’Brien also represented Wales 7s at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. Suffered a serious knee injury in the Champions Cup match against Racing 92 on his European debut for Scarlets, which brought an end to his first season down west. However, he has now made a full return as he bids for a big 2019/20 campaign.
