Hibbard joins Wales Deaf coaching team

13/03/2019

Dragons hooker Richard Hibbard has joined the Wales Deaf rugby team as forwards coach.

The 35-year-old returned to Wales last summer after joining the Dragons and will add coaching on a part-time basis to his playing duties for the Men of Gwent.

Capped 38 times by Wales and a key part of the successful Lions tour of Australia in 2013, Hibbard said: “I’m looking forward to joining the coaching team with Wales Deaf.

"Rugby is a great game for all and a sport I love to play so if I can help the Wales Deaf team out and continue their success, starting with the first match against England, I’ll be delighted.”

David Cobner, Chair of Wales Deaf Rugby said: “We’re delighted to welcome Richard into our coaching team where his significant experience and knowledge is sure to be of great benefit to the players.  His career achievements are phenomenal and he will have a positive impact in the development of deaf rugby in Wales.”

Wales are the current world sevens champions having captured the title in Sydney in 2018.  They are also world 15 a side champions.
