Davies Looks For Home Comforts

12/06/2019

Fly half Sam Davies is ready to turn the jeers to cheers as he plans to make Rodney Parade a stadium feared by the opposition.

Davies knows all about the atmosphere at the home of the Dragons after last season’s derby day when he was playing for the Ospreys.

The outside half impressed throughout and slotted 17-points - but was on the wrong end of the result as Dragons claimed a tense 23-22 league victory.

However, memories of that day remain strong and the 25-year-old now wants to be on the right side of the support as he bids to enjoy some home comforts next season.

“Rodney Parade was always a tough place to come back in the day, so if we can replicate that it will definitely push us in the right direction,” he said.

“We have got to build off what was good last year. The team beat Ospreys, courtesy of me missing that kick, and beat the Scarlets at the end of the season.

“It’s not going to be a case of us shooting to the top of the table just because I have come here.

“I’m only 25 years old, so I’d like to think my best years are still ahead and I’m not even half way through my career yet, so it’s about being on top of my game for the Dragons. But we all have a part to play.

“Home form is always crucial and Rodney Parade has traditionally never been an easy place to come. If we can make it like that again then it only benefits us.”

Meanwhile, Davies has spoken about his delight about linking up again with scrum half Rhodri Williams.

The duo were part of a successful Wales Under-20 set-up and remain good friends away from the field.

“I’ve had some very good days with Rhodri,” smiled Davies. “Those Under-20s days are ones that I look back on fondly, they were a really good time in my career.

“To have a half back partner that you have trust in, and who you have played with before, gives you confidence.

“I’ve watched Rhodri play on Premier Sports and I’ve kept a close eye on the Dragons and Rhodri has played really well.

“I know how Rhodri plays, what he brings to the game and he is a very dangerous player himself. He has a good skill set, good kicking and passing game and you can’t ask for more as an outside half than that.

“I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago when I signed to let him know. I’m excited to get in with him and the other the boys and start writing this story.”
