Wales warm-up ahead of Rugby World Cup 2019 against England has sold-out and the Ireland game – the second match of the Under Armour Summer Series at Principality Stadium next month – is hot on its heels, the Welsh Rugby Union announced today.
The face-off between World Rugby’s second and fourth ranked sides ahead of the Rugby World Cup has proved to be a major draw for fans as Wales look to extend a 14-match unbeaten run and relive the glories of their 2019 Guinness Six Nations Grand Slam against England, in preparation for Japan.
And now tickets see Warren Gatland’s side in action against the men in white one last time in Cardiff on Saturday 17th August have all gone, but fans desperate to show their support for Wales on home soil, before they head for Japanese shores, have one further chance against the Irish a fortnight later.
Ireland, ranked above England in third and arguably providing an even more dramatic proposition (with RWC squads set to be named following this clash), has also captured public imagination, but there is still limited availability– with tickets priced at £10 U16s, £40 AFZ*, £60 and £70 remaining.
Wales travel to Twickenham first up to face the auld enemy on 11th August before hosting the return fixture a week later and Ireland arrive to the 73,931 capacity national ground on Saturday 31st August (Kick-off 14:30hrs).
The two matches on home soil are a Cardiff curtain call for Gatland who will move on after Japan 2019, after serving 12 years at the helm.
The Grand Slam and Gatland-factor combined has long been expected to produce sell-out crowds for the summer, after Wales completed a unique Championship-clean-sweep-hat-trick under his tenure, lifting the Six Nations trophy in 2019 to add to triumphs in 2008 and 2012.
Dragons season members can still get tickets for both games as part of a ticket ballot included in Dragons membership for 2019/20

“These two matches will not only be the last opportunity to see Wales at Principality Stadium before we leave for the World Cup in Japan, but they are also a final send off for our head coach Warren Gatland,” said WRU CEO Martyn Phillips.
“We are expecting two incredible occasions, two huge crowds and a fitting spectacle for all those watching on TV screens around the world as we celebrate the most successful coach in the history of our game and send Wales to the World Cup in no doubt that an entire nation is behind them.
“Our overriding message to supporters looking for tickets for any Wales game and especially those that have sold-out is to make sure they only buy from official WRU sources, where we can guarantee their purchases,” added Phillips.
“All WRU proceeds are invested back into the game at all levels.”
Following the Under Armour Summer Series meetings and away clashes Wales’ 31-man squad will arrive in Japan on 12 September, eleven days ahead of their tournament opener against Georgia in Tokyo.
Wales will train at the impressive City of Kitakyushu Stadium, the same venue at which the WRU kicked off their partnership with the City with the delivery of a range of community activities recently.
After 48 matches involving 20 teams, Japan 2019 will culminate with the final on 2nd November at Yokohama Stadium.
