Ryan ready for challenge ahead

03/07/2019

Director of Dragons Rugby Dean Ryan has officially taken up his post at the region as pre-season preparations continue this week in the summer sun.

Ryan formally started in his role with Dragons on Monday (July 1) after completing work with the RFU and he has been on the training field as the players work through week four of the pre-season programme.

However, in an open letter to members via The Flight newsletter, Ryan revealed his work had started as soon as it was announced he was moving to Rodney Parade.

“Over the last month I’ve started by meeting and listening to coaches, players and management to build up my understanding of the challenge to come,” he said.

“It is a hugely exciting opportunity to create a new story with the players and staff here at the Dragons and personally for me to be back competing again with this team is a challenge I will relish.

“We’re back in pre-season training as preparations begin towards achieving our ambitions, with new players integrating into our squad, and equally pleasing is seeing the players that have committed their future by signing contract renewals.

“There’s a proud rugby history in Gwent and a passionate support base, but we must face up to some of the complex challenges we have here,” he added.

“We need to be brave enough to make the right decisions to build something different that ensures we make it a truly special place to be a part of the Dragons in the future.”
