Gatland praise for wonder Waino

18/08/2019

Wales Head Coach Warren Gatland tipped Dragons star Aaron Wainwright to ‘get a lot of caps’ after the back row forward was inspirational in the victory over England.

Wainwright started the game alongside regional team-mate Ross Moriarty – while Elliot Dee was a second half replacement.

And Wainwright – who earned his 10th cap with a strong 40-minute show before being forced off with a dead leg – certainly turned heads in the Welsh capital with another stellar show to help Wales move to the top of the world rankings.

“He was good. I just keep waiting for him to make a 30 or 40 metre break,” said Gatland.

“I thought Aaron was outstanding last week. Defensively, the amount of rucks he hit.

“Aaron has had a couple of regular starts and I think he’ll get better with those opportunities. There’s no doubt he’s impressed a lot of people in the squad with his physicality and how quickly he’s learning.

“He’s a player for the future, who should get a lot of caps.”
