Back row man-of-the-match Aaron Wainwright believes Dragons showed the true potential at the region as they stunned Scarlets at Judgement Day VII.
Dragons secured a first-ever win at the national stadium with tries from Matthew Screech (2), Jack Dixon and Josh Lewis – plus a crucial late conversion from Jason Tovey.
And Wainwright was delighted with the response of the team after an unforgettable and heart-stopping encounter.
“It was a very nervous end,” smiled Wainwright. “But we knew we had to hold out and not give away any penalties.
“Our defence held up at the end and I am really, really happy to come away with a win.
“We knew if we went through the phases we could cause them problems and put pressure on them,” he added.
“Ceri (Jones) told us to keep doing that, we would find the holes and pick them off.”
Reflecting on the season, Wainwright added: “It hasn’t been the best of seasons, a lot has gone on.
“But we performed well over the Christmas derby games and we showed what we can do in a derby here (Judgement Day) too.
“We saved the best for last, put in a really good performance and I’m really proud of the boys.
“The main thing for us was to really put a performance in on the last game of the season, to put a marker down and hopefully we can kick on now for next season.
“The boys showed we can play some good rugby so we are really happy.”
