Moriarty excited by Judgement Day battle

24/04/2019

Ross Moriarty is ready to put friendships to one side on Judgement Day – and admits he is relishing ‘getting stuck in’ on the final day spectacular at the Principality Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The curtain will come down on the regular Guinness PRO14 season as Dragons battle it out with Scarlets (kick-off 3pm) and Cardiff Blues face Ospreys on one action-packed day in the capital.

And Wales international Moriarty is excited about being part of the action in what is sure to be a huge spectacle.

“It’s going to be great to run out at the Principality Stadium again and enjoy a big day,” said Moriarty.

“Obviously the derby games with Cardiff Blues are big for us, but any Welsh derby is a huge game and I haven’t played against the Scarlets this season so I am looking forward to that.

“Scarlets are packed with Welsh internationals who I’ve played with all season long so it is going to be nice to play against them and see some familiar faces.

“All the boys are looking forward to getting stuck in on the final day of the season and giving it our best shot.

“Friends for Wales but not on Judgement Day - and that is the way it should be.”

Reflecting on his season, Moriarty admits it has been mixed for region and country.

However, he is now hoping for a big final game before the excitement of Rugby World Cup year cranks up over the summer months.

“Obviously it hasn’t gone as well as we had all hoped at Dragons, but with the international stuff I can’t complain,” Moriarty told Scrum V.

“We’ve had a Grand Slam, four wins in the autumn and it puts us on the front foot with the World Cup coming up.

“Ever since I have been involved it has been a special group. We’ve gone unbeaten for 14 games so it is special to be a part of that and we all want to continue that streak.

“We’ll be looking to do our best in the warm-up games and carry that on into the World Cup.

“It’s the biggest tournament in the world and you can’t get any bigger than that,” he added.

“We all want to do our best and we want to win. There is no point turning up if you don’t want to win it. Our prep will be massive and I’m really looking forward to it.”
