Coach pleased as young stars shine

15/04/2019

Head Coach Ceri Jones has praised the way his young stars have shone during the tour to South Arica.

Academy ace Taine Basham started both games – grabbing a try against Toyota Cheetahs – while lock Max Williams featured in both games in South Africa.

Rising star Lennon Greggains has also impressed the coaching team with his attitude and application on tour and Jones believes it is reason to be positive about the future.

“The young lads have been fantastic, all credit to them, and their attitude has been spot on. They have really stood out and been a big positive for me,” added Jones.

“It’s great to have young hungry players who have come through our Academy system and who are very keen to really make an impression and take advantage of this opportunity. It was a chance for them to go away, be part of the senior environment and show they can step up.

“Taine (Basham) had some match action and showed what he is all about and played really well against the Kings and Cheetahs.

“I was pleased with Max Williams too. He has been excellent and had some really good moments. Lennon has been excellent in training and is keen to get some game action.

“It’s a really good sign to see these lads making an impression and the future bodes well for Dragons with young Gwent talent pushing through and eager to make their mark.”
