Positive Landman eager to maintain starting spot

Lock Rynard Landman has vowed to remain positive as the battle for second row spots at the Dragons intensifies in the Guinness PRO14.

The popular South African second row made his 112th appearance for the Dragons in the Guinness PRO14 victory over Zebre Rugby at a rain-drenched Rodney Parade last Saturday.

The 32-year-old had featured for Newport RFC in the Principality Premiership in the opening weeks of the season to try push his recall claims.

And Landman revealed how he looked to gain as much as possible from the experience, with the battle for lock spots set to go on all season.

“It was really good to be back. We had a 13-week pre-season and after that everyone just wanted to play," said Landman.

"But we knew that there was competition in every position, so everybody was just waiting for the chance to play.

"That's why it's a good thing that everybody is playing either for the A team or at the clubs, it keeps us match-fit for when we get the opportunity.

"It went well against Zebre, we got the 'W' that we wanted and we have the same win ratio as last season, so we can only go up from here.

"I want to keep my place now. I did what I did, we will see if it was good enough for the coaches," he added.

"It's for them to decide what happens now within the next few days but whatever happens I will keep being my positive self and keep working harder."

Dragons return to action at Rodney Parade against Cardiff Blues on Saturday 6 October, 5.15pm. Early bird tickets are available until midnight Friday.
