Jackman praises 'professional' Euro show

Head Coach Bernard Jackman praised a 'professional performance' from his Dragons as they secured a convincing 54-17 win over Timisoara Saracens in Romania.

Captain Elliot Dee grabbed a brace at the Dan Paltinisanu Stadium and scores from Leon Brown, Daf Howells, Lewis Evans, Ollie Griffith and Rhodri Davies – plus a penalty try – sent the Dragons past the half century and wrapped up the bonus point.

“I am pleased with the performance,” said Jackman. “There are lots of areas we could improve on, but we scored eight tries, got the bonus point wrapped up by half-time and everyone got a run.

“It’s a very competitive group so it was important we got off to a good start and looked to take ten points against the Romanians over two games. We’ve achieved the first half of that.

“There were a couple of important milestones for us, to score over 50 points and win away from home.

“The opposition weren’t as strong as the likes of Clermont or Northampton, but it is still difficult to come away on a long trip. The boys dealt with it well and it was a professional performance.

“Defensively we were very comfortable," he added. "They scored two tries from intercepts and that is an area we need to be careful of in a tight game.

“In our pre-season friendly with Northampton we conceded a few tries from intercepts so we need to make sure our communication and depth is right.

“You always want some things to work on. It’s pleasing to build on the positives from the Cardiff Blues game and we have added to it.

“We play in a very quick league and we felt that would be to our advantage if we played to a high tempo.

“It was very hot, but we showed our fitness levels. Job done and we now look forward to Friday night.”
