Wales’ first summer tour test is against South Africa on 2nd June, following this fixture they face two tests against Argentina on 9th June and 16th June.

Hewitt and Wainwright join co-captain Cory Hill, Elliot Dee and Hallam Amos as well as future Dragon Ross Moriarty in the Wales squad.

Newport born Hewitt was previously named in the international squad for the Six Nations, however, he had to pull out due to injury. “It was so frustrating being in the Six Nations squad and unable to contribute whilst I was there,” explained the 23-year-old. “I missed my opportunity due to back luck but now I am fit and ready to go!”

He continued; “It was a massive surprise to get the call after missing out on the original selection but for one reason or another I may get an opportunity, so I’m just excited and can’t wait to be with the squad.

“Wearing the jersey would be a dream come true, it would be a huge milestone in my career as it is anyone’s and I just hope I can impress enough in training to get that opportunity.”

Dragons Young Player of the Season, Aaron Wainwright was also ecstatic to receive the call to say that he was being called into the squad. “It felt amazing getting a phone call... I didn’t believe it at first!”

Wainwright continued; “I can’t imagine what it would be like to put the jersey on but I would be extremely proud to represent my country.”

In addition to being called into the Wales squad, flanker Wainwright committed himself to the Men of Gwent this week, by signing new terms with the region.

He commented: “I am delighted to have committed myself for another three years.

“I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else and think that the future is very positive for the Dragons. I think we will be able to compete with the top teams with the things Bernard has put into place.”

Commenting on securing such a talent, Dragons Head Coach Bernard Jackman said; “We have a clear strategy to build this region around talented and passionate homegrown players supplemented by quality recruits where we need them.

“Aaron committing his future to the Dragons and signing for three more years is another boost for our squad.”
