Elliot Dee has been presented with the Supporters, Coaches and Players’ Player of the Year Awards at the region’s end of season Awards held at The Riverfront, Newport, following a campaign that he will personally remember after a number of significant achievements.
The Newbridge product has been a prolific try scorer, crossing the whitewash nine times in 16 appearances for the Dragons during 2017/18, to top the try scoring chart for the region and has led from the front in what has been a challenging campaign.
The 24-year old captained the Dragons at Judgement Day VI at the Principality Stadium last weekend five months after making his international debut for Wales at the same venue against Georgia.
He made his first start for Wales against Italy in this season’s RBS Six Nations and featured in all five games for his nation during the tournament.
His consistently excellent performances have won him many admirers, not least amongst his teammates in the dressing room, the panel of coaches, the Dragons Official Supporters Club members and readers of the South Wales Argus after also winning a public vote through the newspaper.
Captain Cory Hill was named Clubman of Year, whilst Aaron Wainwright picked up the young player of the year award.
A rock for the Dragons, Hill deserves special mention in establishing himself at international level as one of only three players that started every game for Wales in the 2018 NatWest Six Nations. He was also selected in a squad of the tournament and gained plaudits from far and wide.
Aaron Wainwright, 20, made his debut against Cardiff Blues in the Pro14 back in October as one of 21 players to do so this term for the Men of Gwent. The Dragons academy product has been a real find claiming a regular spot in the back row, with 25 appearances for the region making him one of the most selected players in the squad that was regularly depleted by injuries and even mentioned in dispatches from the Wales national camp.
The Try of the Season award went down to the wire with the short list of five scores all drawing plenty of votes, but the eventual winner was Hallam Amos for applying the finishing touchdown to complete a team move against Connacht.
A special recognition award was presented to Adam Hughes following his retirement after 8 years at Rodney Parade, along with presentations to the other players leaving the region at the end of the season.
