The draw for the European Challenge Cup has matched Dragons with 2000 Champions Cup winners Northampton with three-time finalists Clermont Auvergne, as well as Romanian side Timisoara Saracens.

After seeing the Dragons pitched against two European heavyweights, back row Nic Cudd is looking forward to the challenge facing the Dragons.

“I watched the draw live," admitted Cudd, "it was exciting to see who we might play and what trips we might have.

"It’s a tasty group, with Clermont in there, which may be strange for them in the Challenge Cup, as they are a really big club and for whoever of our players goes out there it will be a great experience.

"Northampton Saints again are a big club and even though they didn’t have the best season last season I’m sure they will be better this year coming and we also have Timisoara from Romania.

"I haven’t been out to Romania for a few years, not since Bucharest where we had a good time and a good win, so hopefully we can repeat that.

“The guys are back in training so they’re looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

Sale Sharks, the number-one ranked Gallagher Premiership Rugby club in the Challenge Cup draw, will take on Connacht Rugby, Bordeaux-Bègles and Perpignan in Pool 3, while Benetton Rugby, the highest-ranked PRO14 representative, are in Pool 5 with Harlequins, Agen and Grenoble.

In the Champions Cup, holders and four-times winners Leinster, who took the title in magnificent style in Bilbao last month, will be up against a trio of former champions in Wasps, Toulouse and Bath Rugby when the 2018/19 European season kicks off in October.??

The Premiership winners, Saracens, have been drawn in Pool 3 with Glasgow Warriors, Lyon and Cardiff Blues. Castres Olympique, who were recently crowned TOP 14 champions, will be in Pool 2 along with Exeter Chiefs, Munster Rugby and Gloucester Rugby, whilst the Scarlets face Leicester Tigers, Ulster and Racing.

The first round of European games is scheduled for 12-14 October.

Supporters can see the Dragons in action in all three home games as well as another ten Pro14 fixtures and the home friendly against Northampton Saints from only £139 with Season Membership. CLICK HERE to find out more
