The change in broadcaster arrangements is hugely exciting development for the Championship and for our supporters,” commented David.
“Rodney Parade provides an unrivalled match day experience with the passionate Hazell Terrace creating a memorable atmosphere and we want to retain our supporters and attract more supporters of all ages to come to our matches to enjoy the games at the ground.
“As dedicated sports broadcasters Premier Sports have less restrictions compared to network television stations, so the new TV deal will give supporters greater certainty in the fixture schedule which will help attendances with kick-off times and dates that are more convenient for supporters.”
For the first time in Championship history supporters will be able to watch all 152 Guinness PRO14 games live in HD, including the Final Series, in the UK – including one Free-To Air game in each of the 21 rounds of the regular season.
Following the expansion of the Championship last year to include two South African teams, the new broadcast deal will also bring commercial benefits with increased revenue for each participating team as a direct result.
“We need to be better resourced to ensure our sustainability and to invest in our team, venue and community programmes to drive our future success, so the increase in our central funding is important, but equally crucial is the free-to-air element of this broadcast agreement as this will ensure as many people as possible can still see the shop window for the competition.”
