DRAGONS ANNOUNCE MBS AS MAIN SPONSOR

In the first partnership of the new era of the Dragons, the region has unveiled that Monmouthshire Building Society will take pride of place on the front of the Dragons jersey.

Jon Pallett | 04/08/2017

The sponsorship will remain in place for the next three seasons, as the biggest deal in the side’s history is struck with one of the longest standing businesses in the region.

Monmouthshire Building Society’s significant investment in the Dragons marks the beginning of a new chapter at Rodney Parade.

The independent, Welsh, mutual Building Society, with headquarters in Newport since 1869 will feature both on the chests and collars of the Dragons home and away jerseys until 2020.

Dragons CEO Stuart Davies commented: “This investment from Monmouthshire Building Society is as timely as it is welcome and we would like to thank them, not just for their support now and over the years, but for their loyalty to us as we moved through a significant period of transition this summer.

“They have put their faith in us at the beginning of this new start, they share our vision for the future of the Dragons and see the potential for success both on and off the pitch.

“The contribution Monmouthshire Building Society has made to the future sustainability of the Dragons is the largest single sponsorship in our history in monetary terms and is a great example of what can be done when the true potential of the region is released.

“I know that the commercial team here have had a busy summer, as the feel good factor continues, and are close to announcing more sponsorships soon.”

Monmouthshire Building Society has a long standing relationship with the Dragons previously through match-day and community activation. They now take over from BT Sport as the main jersey sponsor, with the telecoms company retained as a partner elsewhere on the kit as part of a cross-region deal.

Monmouthshire Building Society, Interim Chief Executive, Will Carroll added: “I am delighted that the society will be partners with the Dragons for the next three years.

“The region is in an exciting period of change, much like our business. The partnership shows our continued support for the communities within the region and our heartlands.

“We wish the team every success in the coming season.”

Dragons kit will be available in shops from early September with a new design, featuring the Monmouthshire Building Society logo.

Dragons Commercial Director, Pete Grzonka said: “This is the ideal partnership, we

share a similar geographical footprint to the Society in terms of it’s members and branches and the supporters throughout the region we know we must reach.

“This deal is a significant moment and is tangible proof that the Dragons are now a hugely investible prospect in the Welsh rugby marketplace.

“A new owner, a new pitch, a new coach, investment in facilities and personnel and a long term, realistic sustainable plan all add up to make the Dragons attractive to both supporters and businesses alike.

“We would also like to thank Gilbert for their patience as we have worked through our rebranding process and put kit manufacturing on hold whilst we secured this important partnership and look forward now to seeing the finished product on Rodney Parade shelves this September.”
