Cory Hill named Dragons Captain

The Dragons are delighted to announce that Welsh International Cory Hill will captain the side during the 2017/18 season.

The 25-year-old has made over 70 appearances for the Dragons since his arrival in 2013, where he made his debut for the region against London Wasps in November of that year. Subsequent to his time with the Dragons, Hill was picked up by Wales and earned his first International Cap against Australia in the opening match of the 2016 Under Armour Series. Following this impressive series, he went on to be named Vice-Captain of the Welsh Squad for their 2017 Summer tour to Tonga & Samoa.

Previous to his time at the Dragons, Pontypridd-born Hill made 16 appearances for the Cardiff Blues before spending a season with Moseley in 2013. Capped at Wales U18 level, Hill captained the Wales U20 squad at the 2012 Junior World Cup in South Africa.

Most recently, during the summer of 2017, he was called into the British and Irish Lions squad for their series in New Zealand.

Commenting on the announcement, Cory Hill said: “I am delighted to have been named captain of the Dragons this season!

He continued: “It was a really proud moment when Bernard (Jackman) asked me to take over the captaincy.

“I thought that Lewis (Evans) did a fantastic job, despite the difficult season that we had previously and having spoken to him I know that he is 100% behind me, and with his experience he will be great to have around.

“I am looking forward to working with Bernard and the rest of the coaching team and I can’t wait for the new season to begin.”

Dragons Head Coach, Bernard Jackman added: “He is the outstanding leader in the group.

"He has a similar mindset to me - he is honest, wants to get better quickly and is willing to put the hard work in.

"His experiences with high performance teams like Wales and the Lions have just reinforced the habits he has naturally.

"The abrasiveness style of play and character and we have gone away from that. We need to get that back."
