Over 40 coaches were in attendance from the Region’s Premiership, Championship and Division 1 Clubs as well as those with Level 2 coaching qualifications from other clubs across the Region.
Huw Bevan, Dragons Elite Performance and Rugby Operations Manager, said:
“We were delighted with the response to our launch event for the new CPD Programme. Coaches in attendance were given the opportunity to listen to presentations given by Kingsley Jones, Shaun Connor, Ryan Harris and I.
“We covered a range of topics including coaching philosophy, integrating a multi disciplinary team, evolving a culture, identifying and developing a style of play, along with the skills and physical attributes that underpin it.”
The Dragons CPD Programme is coordinated in conjunction with WRU Coach Development Manager Nigel Way. He added:
“We had an excellent turnout for our first senior CPD event. The level of detail and information relayed by the Kingsley, Huw, Shaun & Ryan was fantastic and can only help to benefit the delivery of coaching within the Region. Access to 4 senior coaches plus Stuart Davies gave everyone an ‘access all areas’ insight into how Regional rugby is run and delivered.
“This type of event allows our coaches the opportunity to explore the previously inaccessible areas of the local regional game as well as giving an opportunity to share ideas. The event was highly informative and enjoyable.”
The CPD Programme builds on the fantastic links the Dragons currently boast with it’s clubs across the Region. Huw Bevan continued:
“Going forward, it is our intention to deliver three further CPD events based on areas identified from the feedback we receive from the coaches who attended the launch event. These bespoke events, may be practical in nature, focus on the theory that underpins our practice, or a combination of both, depending on the needs of our Regional Coaches.”
