The inaugural event saw the Dragons ladies take the victory against Scarlets Ladies in the final with a final score of 35-14, after edging out Cardiff Blues in the knock-out stages 17-14.

Dragons Ladies Sevens Coach Nick Wakley commented: “They played the best sevens throughout that tournament.

“The girls really bought into it, kept possession, scored some brilliant tries and really grew through the tournament.

“We knew that we would be in with a shout after playing some good stuff in the pool and they deserved the win. It was a real team effort.”

The tournament was the first of four with knockout stages set to be played at the Foster's National 7s at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park in August.

Dragons Ladies Sevens Squad: Elinor Snowsill (captain), Sian Williams, Gemma Rowlands, Carrie Roberts, Kim Boaler, Beth Dainton, Sian Moore, Rhiannon Mann, Roisin Paynton, Robyn Haris, Leah Price, Meg O'Sullivan, Emma Hennessy, Charlie Murray.

Girls Rugby taster sessions are continuing at Llanwern High School for under-15s. A session takes place tonight (Wednesday) at 6.30pm before they move to Mondays at the same time.
