The Rodney Parade Fanzone can host 5,000 supporters and is the first and only Fanzone to be setup in Newport for the tournament. The home of Newport Gwent Dragons, Newport County and Newport RFC will setup a giant screen on the grassed area outside Rodney Hall. Gates open at 4pm with music and match build-up ahead of the 8pm kick off. Food and drink will be available and all bars will be open.
Rodney Parade CEO Stuart Davies commented: “We’re delighted to be facilitating a Newport Fanzone for such an important match, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to Rodney Parade.
“We demonstrated with last year’s fireworks display what a wonderful venue we have here, and I have no doubt that Friday will be a great occasion.”
Wales beat Northern Ireland 1-0 on Saturday in the last 16 to progress to Friday night’s Quarter-Final against Belgium, who beat Hungary 4-0 on Sunday.
“Let’s hope for an historic Wales win and a night to be remembered by all” Davies continued.
The Fanzone is organised by a partnership between Newport City Council, Newport Live and Rodney Parade following a campaign by the South Wales Argus.
Newport City Council Leader Cllr Debbie Wilcox said: “I was very keen that we were able to offer a venue in the city for local fans to watch the match after it became clear that was what people wanted.
“I’m delighted we have been able to work with our leisure trust Newport Live and Rodney Parade to make sure this will happen.
“We will all be cheering on Wales on Friday night and I would like to wish the team all the best, including our Newport talent in the squad, Chris Gunter and James Collins.”
Steve Ward, Chief Executive of Newport Live, said: “As host to the Football Association of Wales National Development Centre at Newport International Sport Village we feel the connection and can’t wait to be part of the Fanzone delivery.
“Rodney Parade’s team have been fantastic in supporting event,” he continued.
