Dragons Charity Bike Ride – This Weekend

Participants in this weekend’s Dragons Charity Bike Ride attended St David’s Hospice in Newport this afternoon to chat to Hospice staff and see the facility that the event is raising money for.

In all 31 riders are signed up to take part in the Dragons Charity Bike Ride, all of whom are raising a minimum of £250 sponsorship for St David’s Hospice Care. This includes former Newport RFC and Newport Gwent Dragons flanker Jason Forster who chatted to Dragons TV earlier this week.

Kris Broome, Director of Fundraising at St David’s Hospice Care said

“It is fantastic to have 31 riders signed up and taking part in this weekend’s event and raising valuable money to help us with the ongoing costs of running our Hospices across the Region. From meeting participants today and at our Launch Event at the Wales International Velodrome we know everyone is really looking forwards to taking part this weekend.”

Jeff Waite, one of the participants on the Charity Bike Ride said

“A few years ago St David’s was incredibly supportive to my wife's Grandmother and our family. Since then as a family we support the Charity where possible with donations and volunteering in one of the St David’s Shops. I found out about the cycle ride online and it seemed a great opportunity to raise money and enjoy a weekend of sport. I have done limited training but am hoping my cycling to and from work each day will be sufficient!”

The Dragons Charity Bike Ride will take riders to all four regional grounds this weekend. Riders will meet at Rodney Hall on Saturday morning to watch the second test between Wales and New Zealand (KO 8:35am) before travelling by mini bus to Parc y Scarlets for the start of the ride.

The Cycle route sees riders stop off at Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon before heading to Acorn Camping and Caravan Park for an overnight stop Saturday night. On Sunday riders head to BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park, before heading on to Rodney Parade where they are excepted to arrive around 3pm.

Event sponsors Cineworld, Tractor Hire, Atradius, Richard Andrews Architects, Rougemont School and Acorn Campsite have kindly supported the event including provided riders with Rider Jerseys and Polo Tops.

Updates and photos from the Ride will be posted onto Newport Gwent Dragons Facebook and Twitter pages through the weekend.
