Newport Gwent Dragons players Carl Meyer and Dorian Jones recently helped local cycling club Velo Club Newport with their bucket collection to raise funds for the Ride to the Rugby event for shelter this year from Cardiff to Dublin.
Velo Club Newport set up a few turbo trainer bikes in Newport City Centre Shopping complex Friars Walk and, alongside Carl Meyer and Dorian Jones, they collected money from members of the public in order to raise funds for the event.
The players helped to raise over £500 in the space of a few short hours on Saturday afternoon.
John Malony, a member of the Velo Club Newport commented: “Thank you for your support and help with our bucket collection in aid of Shelter and the Ride to Rugby.
“Thanks to Dorian and Carl for coming along and helping us collect… They were model professional rugby players and a credit to themselves, the club and the game.
“We all had a really good afternoon at Friars Walk and were overwhelmed with the public response and their donations.”
