Just last week, the year 5 and 6 rugby teams from Ysgol Gymraeg Caerfilli were on parade to enjoy our unique ‘out of school’ learning experience.
The day was jam packed full of educational and inspiring activities, which used Rugby and education to engage the next generation of potential Dragons stars. The youngsters were taken behind-the-scenes tour of the Dragons’ lair, Rodney Parade, they also got to look inside the changing rooms for their very own Dragons team-talk. They also got the chance to take part in a Dragons-inspired rugby session thanks to Community Education Officer, Matt Williams, before a well-earned rest over lunch.
After lunch, the young lads became S4C journalists as they prepared to interview our very own Welsh speaking speedster, Lloyd Lewis. They each learned interview and microphone techniques, and after spending the morning learning all about the Dragons and Rodney Parade they were ready to put Lloyd to the test. They made the most of Lloyd’s experiences as a 7s player, in time for their upcoming tournaments after a number of successful 15-a-side round robin matches.
Community Education Officer, Matt Williams, said “The pupils were a credit to their school, and showed off their impressive speaking, listening and language skills during the interview, and could easily give some of the professionals a run for their money! Hopefully they take Lloyd’s advice and I wish them all the best for the rest of the season and beyond."
