The powerful back rower has made over 30 appearances for the Dragons since his arrival during the Summer of 2015, and has made a big impact both on and off the field. His strong ball-carrying, pace about the field and appetite for defensive duties has quickly won over the home crowd at Rodney Parade.
After signing his contract, Ed Jackson commented: “When I first signed for the Dragons I saw it as an opportunity for a new challenge. I thought that it would be good for my game to experience rugby in a different environment and league. Originally my thoughts were to look to move back into the Aviva Premiership afterwards, but since joining I have enjoyed it a lot more than I first anticipated. It feels like there is a proper rugby community in Gwent, which is very infectious and I have really enjoyed that aspect of it.”
The 27-year-old, who has previously played for Bath Rugby and Wasps, will remain with the Men of Gwent until 2019. He continued: “This year I had the opportunity to go back and play in the Aviva Premiership, but when Kingsley (Jones) mentioned that he would like me to stay it didn’t take much consideration, because I am enjoying myself on and off the pitch and I believe that the Region are moving in the right direction. We all believe that we have the chance to become a very competitive team in this league. We have a lot of very talented and hardworking players and coaches who all want the region to return to success. Combine this with the best support in Wales and I have no doubt that we will achieve our goals. We are starting to make Rodney Parade a very difficult place to win. I can only see things getting better and I want to be a part of it.
Dragons Head Coach, Kingsley Jones added: “I had the opportunity to work closely with Ed before he joined the Dragons, and he has continued to impress me with his intelligence and skill set.
“He is the perfect age for us and I feel that in the modern game between 26-30 years-old is the best band to be in. He’s such a positive guy and what everyone likes about him here is that he is able to learn and take things on, whilst also leading.
“He has earned his new contract with some outstanding performances, and what pleases me most is his belief in what we are trying to build here and how positively we’re progressing”
