Bevan has joined the coaching staff at the Dragons, from his role as England cricket team’s strength and conditioning coach.

The former hooker with Bridgend, Cardiff and Swansea joined the England Cricket Board in 2009 and was handed the role of strength and conditioning coach soon after joining.

On his recent appointment, Huw Bevan said, “I'm very pleased to be involved at an extremely exciting time for the Dragons. We have a fantastic new training facility and excellent staff who are ambitious and share my commitment to improving our performance.

Director of rugby Lyn Jones, commented, “We have a vision and ambition to be the best, raising standards and changing behaviour will be key. Appointing someone of Huw Bevan’s capabilities is a serious statement from us, that we will do more than talk about it.

“During our time together in shaping the start of Ospreys rugby, I was impressed with Huw’s innovation, organisation and work ethic.  These qualities were reflected successfully with England Cricket.

“Huw's appointment as 'Elite Performance Manager', underpins the long term vision for Gwent Rugby."

Alongside Bevan, Jones has appointed Ryan Harris and Simon Church to work within the department.

Talking about his two new support staff, Bevan said, “Ryan and Simon are two guys who, in previous roles within the region, have demonstrated they have the attributes and expertise we are looking for at the Dragons.

“Ryan is well respected and has gained an impressive reputation through his work with the Wales U20s squad and Dragons academy over the last five years. Simon earns this opportunity, as a full time member of staff, after impressing coaches during his internship with the Dragons last year.

Bevan added, “Both Ryan and Simon have been rewarded for their performance in their previous positions with an opportunity to work with the senior squad. I look forward to working with them over the coming seasons, assisting them with their ongoing professional development and insuring Dragons players are optimally physical prepared.”
