Dragons reach the finals of 7s Series

Newport Gwent Dragons made the finals of the Premiership Rugby 7s Series but narrowly missed out to reigning 7s champions Gloucester Rugby.

The men of Gwent made three changes to the squad, which played in the first Welsh leg of the tournament, as they called up Luke Morgan, James Cordy-Redden and Angus O’Brien.

Their opening game was against Newcastle Falcons which didn't look good as the Dragons trailed them 10-0 at the break. But skipper Sam Cross turned it around along with Angus O’Brien who followed his lead crossing the white-wash. With Rhys Jones converting the first try, the Dragons finished on top 12-10 and made it through to the Cup semi-finals.

Next up for the Welsh Region were hosts Harlequins, this game was another nail biter as they beat them 19-15. This was thanks to Cross Keys speedster Jonny Lewis who raced over the try line on the final whistle. He put points on the board for the Dragons along with Luke Morgan with two to his name, against Harlequins.

Finally it was the final for the men of Gwent and they were against reigning champions Gloucester Rugby. Unfortunately for the Welsh Region the Cherry and Whites were just too strong as they held onto a victory of 12-5 in the Cup Finals. They had ended the Dragons night but finishing top out of the Welsh Regions and second in the overall series was a great achievement for the men of Gwent.
