Supporting Velindre Cancer Centre on Friday 30th November, The Events Room, in partnership with Rodney Parade are delighted to offer you the opportunity to attend a special dinner with Sir COLIN MEADS to commemorate Newport's famous victory over the 1963 All Blacks.

The evening will consist of a sumptuous two-course meal, tales of rugby's golden era, live Q&A, raffle and auction. Proceeds to our chosen charity Velindre.

Newport and Wales dual code legend David Watkins MBE added "It is a huge honour for Newport to be hosting an evening with the great man Sir Colin Meads. He was a hugely dedicated rugby player in my day, and I recall him flooring me on one occasion in particular! It was also huge for Newport to beat the legendary All Blacks in 63' and I hope that the Welsh public come out in force to welcome the great man."

Sir Colin was more than just the most famous forward in world rugby, he is regarded by many as New Zealand's greatest ever rugby player, and was named Player of the Century at the NZRFU Awards dinner in 1999. He is a member of both the International Rugby Hall of Frame and the New Zealand Sports Hall of Frame.

Sir Colin went on to make a then world record 55 appearances for the All Blacks. His strength and high threshold for pain became legendary — best illustrated when in a game against Eastern Transvaal in South Africa, in which he emerged from a particularly vicious ruck with his arm dangling horribly, with an obvious fracture, yet completed the match. When the doctor cut away his shirt and confirmed the break, Meads muttered, "At least we won the bloody game."

He was later, in 1971 awarded an MBE for his services to rugby.

Your host for the evening will be none other than Phil Kingsley Jones. Phil received worldwide recognition as former manager and mentor of rugby sensation JONAH LOMU. In his own right, Phil is now regarded as being one of the most sought after speakers in the southern hemisphere.

Many former Newport and Welsh legends including David Watkins MBE are likely to be present for what promises to be an unforgettable night for everyone fortunate enough to attend.

Tables of 10 are available at just £400. A quantity of individual covers on shared tables of 10 are also available at just £40 per person. We also have x30 VIP tickets at £65 per person. You will receive a champagne reception in an executive box with Sir Colin along with prime location seating for the main event.

The evening commences at 7.30pm and the dress code is lounge suits and dresses.
