With the new season just on the horizon our Community staff are hard at work organising the big opening day that has traditionally kicked off with the Men of Gwent 7s. However, as we all know, nothing stays the same and this year the emphasis has swung back to the carnival atmosphere of a family fun day that will also host a competitive match for the Dragons who will take on the Gwent Premiership Select XV, supported by Worthington’s, on Saturday 4th August with a 4pm kick off.
Before the big match there will be a host of good old family entertainment which will include a whole variety of inflatables, games and fun activities. There will be a golfing experience courtesy of the Celtic Manor and a range of sporting activities to take part in, Dance/Cheerleader demonstrations by Stage Stuck, competitions, the Ezeeeplay play bus and soft play areas, the Bella environment van plus many more activities, all of which are free once the initial entry fee of only £3 into Rodney Parade has been made. Please note: season tickets do not apply to this event, it has been deemed 'all pay'.
The sun shines on the righteous and we are feeling justifiably confident that the day will be an excellent opportunity for our new partnership with Newport County to get off to a cracking start as we will endeavour to give both soccer and rugby demonstrations alongside each other. Our Dragons squad will also be in attendance to rub shoulders with our supporters.
Before the kick off of the big match there will be a race between our local rival mascots who will be looking to beat both Rodney the Dragon and Tommy the Tiger. At half time and immediately after the big match there will be tag rugby demonstrations, in association with Taylor Wimpey, between U9’s teams from around the region that will give the youngsters the opportunity to enjoy playing on the best rugby, and soon to be best soccer, surface in Wales!
So make a note of the date and get to Rodney Parade for 12noon and enjoy yourself with your family. You can even take in a local brew at the FoNR beer festival planned over Friday and Saturday that weekend. Alongside the beer festival you will also be able to enjoy the music via our live bands.
