COLEG GWENT OFF TO A FLYER

Coleg Gwent won their first game of the the season

Coleg Gwent won their first game of the the season with a hard faught victory 28 17 in windy conditions and a heavy pitch away to Coleg Morgannwg. This performance will increase the squads confidence going into this years college competition. The team aspires to go one step further and win the league outright this season.

Coleg Gwent against the wind looked to keep the ball in hand and go through the phases, this tactic payed off as continued pressure resulted in early penalties awarded. Coleg Gwent chose to go for goal outside half Ethan Davies converting. Both teams had opportunities to score, but it was Coleg Morgannwg who got the first try of the game which came from a loose offload deep in the opposition 22 resulting in Coleg Morgannwg going the length of field.

In the second half and the wind behind them Coleg Gwent played a teritory game and again applied pessure through some good phases resulting in tries for George Davies. Scott Cole and Scott Mathews. Both teams tried to play some expansive rugby, where commited in defence and contributed to an entertaining game.  Dragons Junior Academy emphasis  is to develop basic Core Skills and Conditioning and it was evident throughout the game.

Coleg Gwent travel to Pembrokeshire College on the 12th October for their next league fixture.
