FALETAU PICKS UP INDUSTRY AWARD

Dragons number 8 Toby Faletau has been honoured by the Welsh Rugby Writers’ Association this week as he has picked up the award for Most Promising [uncapped] Welsh Player.

Dragons number 8 Toby Faletau has been honoured by the Welsh Rugby Writers’ Association this week as he has picked up the award for Most Promising [uncapped] Welsh Player.

Toby’s barnstorming performances for Newport Gwent Dragons took him into Warren Gatland’s national squad during the Six Nations tournament. His father played for Tonga and Ebbw Vale and the younger Faletau is widely expected to win his first international cap for Wales in the near future.

One of his strongest competitors in this category was regional wing Adam Hughes, who has made outstanding progress during the season just ending.

The Player of the Year in Wales award went to Sam Warburton with Dragons Dan Lydiate also picking up nomination in the main category.

Player of the Principality Premiership is Matthew Morgan [Swansea], who had huge support for his candidacy following a season when he was marked down by many as a future Welsh international outside-half and who led the field comfortably in the ballot.

Dragons and Cross Keys fly half Steffan Jones was also nominated in the Premiership Player of the Year Award

The awards will be presented at the annual dinner of Welsh Rugby Writers’ Association at Cardiff rugby club on 30th June.
