DRAGONS U17 DRAW WITH WALES U16

It was a case of honours even on Friday evening between the Dragons Under 17s and Wales Under 16s at Newbridge RFC.

Both teams played with great deal of endeavour on an evening which was not conducive to open running rugby. The Welsh team opened the scoring with a penalty by Sam Withers which was replied by a try by Dragons prop Dan Goode which was converted by Ethan Davies. A further penalty by Davies made sure that the Dragons went into half time with a 10-3 lead. Both teams made changes at half time and an excellent break away try from Dafydd Howells which was also converted by Withers drew the scores level.

The try of the game came from some fantastic interplay between backs and forwards which lead to Derryn Jones himself very unlucky not to be selected by the national team going over to what look like a try winning score, again Davies converted to make the score 17 -10. With little time left the Welsh Under 16s threw everything at the Dragons and were rewarded when Dan Brooks dived over from short range Josh White converted and the game ended in a draw 17 apiece.
