Schools that visit the Second Half are invited to meet and interview one of the Dragons squad.
To this end we are printing the pick of the interviews to form a background insight into as many members of the playing squad as we can.
The first school to produce their work, and that it is of a very high standard I think you will agree, was Pentrepoeth and they interviewed Hugo Ellis.
My Report about Hugo Ellis by Ella Miles
At Rodney Parade we met Hugo Ellis the famous rugby player and we interviewed him and this is what I found out.
Hugo started playing rugby when he was young and he was inspired by his dad when he took him to a rugby club at the age of eight. Morgan asked Hugo how many tries he has ever scored in a single game? Hugo explained, "I was in school in Richmond and it was about 5/6 tries but it was a lot easier when I was younger but now it's a lot harder. Somebody asked Hugo what was his worst injury. He replied "I was about 15 and I was playing rugby, I was going to kick the ball but someone else did too but they kicked my ankle instead and I broke my ankle and I couldn't play rugby for a long time. I still have two pins in my ankle to keep in in place. It was horrible."
He was only 18 when he left school and became a professional rugby player at Wasps Academy. His most embarrassing moment was when he was sitting on the bench and his friend asked him to practice box kicks with him but when he was about to catch the ball the crowd went "ohhhhhh" and he just kept dropping it and dropping it.
Hugo's favourite place to play is Leicester because he loves the atmosphere and all the cheering to support him. Hugo's least favourite place to play is Cardiff Blues because they have a huge stadium and they never fill it up so it feels like there is nobody there. His favourite colour is red because he supports Arsenal. Hugo's favourite food is his Mum's shepherds pie but before a game he like to have a large bowl of pasta because it is full of carbohydrates which give him energy.
Hugo is superstitious because he puts his right sock on, then his right boot, then his left sock then his left boot. He also said touch wood before he told us his worst injury. In 2008 Hugo was captain of the England Under 20s RWC. They were against Australia and then they played against New Zealand but New Zealand won the final. Hugo's father played rugby for NEath and Hugo followed his father and Hugo's brother followed Hugo. Hugo said he really enjoyed going to Nando's and going out for a coffee. I really enjoyed meeting the famous Hugo Ellis.
My Report about Hugo Ellis by Jack Davis
Today's report is about a professional rugby player and his name is Hugo Ellis, he plays for Newport Gwent Dragons.
Hugo Ellis' dad inspired him at the age of 8 years old by taking him to Richmond RFC. In school he scored 5/6 tries in one game but he admitted "school rugby is easier than professional Rugby". Hugo Ellis explained his worst injury was at school, he went to kick the ball then a different player slid and knocked Hugo's ankle out of place.
At the age of 18, Hugo left school and went to the Wasp's Academy. His most embarrassing moment was when his friend asked him to catch some box kicks but he missed 3 or 4 probably because the crowd were shouting and he was distracted. His best place to play is Leicester because he likes the atmosphere which is full. His favourite team to play against is Cardiff football/rugby stadium because they can't find enough rugby fans to fill it.
Hugo's favourite colour is red because when he was a little boy he supported Arsenal. His favourite food is Mum's Shepherd's Pie but before a game it is pasta because it gives you energy and is full of carbohydrates.
Hugo's superstitions are to put his right sock and his right boot on before a game. Hugo believes that will bring him good luck. When Mr. James asked about his injuries he touched wood because he didn't want any more. In 2008 Hugo did one of the best things in rugby. He captained his country (England). They did amazingly well and came second in the world. It was amazing to meet Hugo.
