BREW AND MCKENZIE SHOW RACISM THE RED CARD

Dragons stars Ali McKenzie and Nathan Brew have both been working with local school children as part of the Show Racism the Red Card Campaign.

Dragons stars Ali McKenzie and Nathan Brew have both been working with local school children as part of the Show Racism the Red Card Campaign.

80 pupils from Maindee Primary, St.Josephs Primary and Ringland Primary attended the occasion for the whole day in our first all day event of the season.

Pupils engaged in an anti racism workshop in the morning delivered by SRtRC Wales Education Coordinator Simon Richards and Ex professional footballer Christian Roberts.

Pupils took part in interactive tasks learning about different forms of racism and their consequences along with discovering different cultures from around the world affecting their lives using football as a tool for delivery.

Pupils had the opportunity to ask questions about racism in sport and society to the panel of players which saw some testing questions such as “how do you feel when you are receiving racism” and “what can be done to stop it.”

The day was a great occasion for the pupils and their teachers were very positive about the outcomes and importance of the event and are keen to continue with anti racist education in their classroom.

Nathan said “It was a very worthwhile event. We were able to show the effect racism can have on an individual’s life and the kids seemed to take everything we said on board very well.
“I was impressed by the children that came and they asked a lot of very honest questions.”

The Dragons have invited the children involved to come down to Rodney Parade to enjoy the matchday experience and meet Ali and Nathan, as well as their other favourite Dragons players.

A video diary of the day can be seen here
