Newport Gwent Dragons and former All Blacks scrum half Danny Lee will be getting to grips with Welsh culture on Monday as he joins local school children and Melin Homes in celebrating St David’s Day.
Staff at Melin Homes are embracing their Welsh roots by inviting local primary school children and Danny, who is recovering from shoulder surgery earlier this month, to join them in a day of events to celebrate the Welsh national day.
New Inn Primary school choir are being chauffeur driven in the Melin mini bus to the housing association’s Pontypool offices on Monday 1st March to help staff raise the roof with a rendition of Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau followed by a kicking competition and prize-giving.
Melin has been a keen sponsor of the Newport Gwent Dragons for the last two years and supports the work they do with many young people who live within our communities.
The St David’s Day events are being organised in line with the Welsh Language Board initiative to boost the profile of Welsh.
A number of other events will be taking place at the Melin offices throughout the day, including a Welsh themed fancy dress competition, Welsh language challenges, and a quiz called Never Forget Your Welsh, testing staff on their knowledge of national trivia.
