U16S FALL TO FIRST DEFEAT

The Dragons U16s fell to their first defeat of the season last night as the Blues North came out on top in trying conditions to claim a 10-3 victory.

With all other Regional Age Grade games falling victim to the weather, the focus was firmly set on Abercwmboi and despite the game going ahead, the weather still had a major influence on match.  With driving rain and a rain-sodden pitch, running rugby was not on the menu.

The Dragons had taken the lead thanks to a Lloyd Rogers penalty, before his opposite number Jarrod Evans levelled the scores to go in 3-3 at half time.

But the Dragons remained in the driving-seat and dominated the second-half.  Sterling defence from the Blues North kept their Gwent rivals at bay and they were given their reward when Jack James raced clear to score the decisive try, which was then converted.

Dragons team manager John Trigwell said; "I felt that it was a game we lost rather than a match the North won. We were the better side but made one or two wrong decisions at important times. However, these boys are very young and they will learn from it."
