Dragons centre Ashley Smith is the new ambassador for the Going for Gold project. Ashley is a Newport born player and has come through the ranks from Caerleon High, NHSOB’s and Dragons Academy, playing in all Junior Welsh Age groups and has now made 50 appearances for the Dragons.
Going for Gold is Newport’s answer to Health Challenge Wales and the aim is to get people more active, more often. Once signed up to the project, which is for free, you receive a free credit card style membership card. When you take part in something active in Newport, you can swipe your card at any participating club or leisure facility and earn points. There is then a draw 4 times a year with the people with the most points going into a Gold prize draw, the people with slightly less points going into the silver draw and then people who attend on average once a week going into the bronze draw. There are different prizes each draw, however the first draw of this year, the prizes was a Nintendo Wii and Wii Fit, 5 iPods and 250 water bottles.
Ashley is excited to be the ambassador for the project and hopes to get involved as often as he can with all the different events happening throughout the year.
Newport Gwent Dragons and Going for Gold are pleased to announce their exciting new community partnership.
Going for Gold runs different projects that are aimed at everyone so if you are keen to get active more often and become part of the 40,000 members already in Newport, or if you want a chance to win exciting prizes please look at www.newport.gov.uk/g4g or call 01633 656656.
