CHARTERIS PICKS UP TOP AWARD

Luke Charteris picked up possibly the best accolade a player can get on Friday night as he received the Players’ Player of the year award at the Dragons Players’ dinner.

Luke Charteris picked up possibly the best accolade a player can get on Friday night as he received the Players’ Player of the year award at the Dragons Players’ dinner.

Jamie Ringer, Rhys Thomas and Gareth Wyatt all picked up caps for making a century of starts for the region, whilst wing Richard Fussell went home with his 50 starts cap.

Richard Parks, who was forced to retire earlier this month, received a special award recognising his services to the club and those players leaving the region were presented given their playing shirts.

The Dragons team doctor Dee Clark won the Clubman of the year award, an award voted for by every member of the squad and staff. Dee was with the Dragons in Perpignan and Toulouse when Dan Lydiate and Marc Stcherbina incurred their respective neck injuries.

“Behind every team, there are always many unsung heroes,” said Dragons Chief Executive Gethin Jenkins “But there are few team doctors who have to cope with two very serious injuries in as many seasons, particularly whilst on foreign soil.

In addition to all of the free time she gives up for the side, Dee showed her skill and dedication in both of these situations, which meant our players made it home safely and have both made extraordinary recoveries. Rugby is a sport where players do put their bodies on the line and the dragons are lucky to have such a fantastic medical team to support them.”
