The Scarlets under 18s booked their place in the final of the WRU Age Grade Championship after the Dragons failed to win at Parc y Scarlets last night.
Needing to win their remaining three games to have any chance of denying the Scarlets, Blues or Ospreys a place in the final, the Dragons put up a decent fight before going down 20-8.
Having been been beaten 19-13 on home soil back in September, the Gwent region missed the boat for a second time this term as tries from hooker Kirby Myhill and outside half Jordan Williams sent the Scarlets into the final where they are likely to face the Blues.
The Ospreys do have an outside chance of pipping the Blues to a place in the final, but they would need to beat the Blues in their final game and rely on their closest rivals losing their three remaining games too.
Considering the Blues are the only unbeaten side in the competition to date, that seems an unlikely scenario.
Myhill’s scorching break and touchdown in the first half set the Scarlets on their way to a 10-3 interval lead. Under 16 starlet Jordan Williams, who stepped up in the absence of eight players on Under 18 international duty in North Wales, added a conversion and penalty and then converted his own second half try and kicked a penalty for good measure.
The Dragons, who too were missing a number of players on international duty, saw full back Sam Bevan add to Joshua Prosser’s first half penalty with a try after the break. However, despite periods of sustaimed pressure and an all-round decent performance, they were unable to take anything from the game as the Scarlets held on with ease to register their sixth victory in seven games this term.
