No rest during holidays for Dragon Stars
During the long, long six-week school holiday period, even right through the wettest ever recorded, work continues apace here at Rodney Parade. The Community Projects continue to set the pace with their summer camps in association with Finning Cat and visits to local community events and sporting venues.
Further to this the players have been busy keeping the Dragons positive profile throughout the Region. Leading the way has been popular centre Gareth Maule who has helped in many various ways including attending a reading at the main Newport library, attending the opening of a golf club in Tredegar, welcoming new entrants to a Welsh medium comprehensive school in Pontypool and helping at a number of clubs in their end of season presentations.
Ashley Smith has also been very active and is joint leader on the community players support - board of events, along with Gareth, with six visits in all areas of Gwent. The unlucky Jamie Corsi has been overcoming his injury by maintaining contact with Dragon fans through his community duties and is third in the league.
Snapping at the boys heels are Alex Jones, Gethin Robinson, Jason Tovey, Jimmy Norris and Dan Lydiate, all of which were patrons of the summers skills camps and regularly attended to mix with the hundreds of youngsters from all corners of the region.
The players enjoy their community duties, and we do our best to fulfil the hundreds of requests we receive, although one tip is that the earlier the request is made the easier it is to accommodate.
The message is that we want to get into activities throughout the Gwent Region and the players are more than willing to participate in that goal.
