Commitment to the Community

The Dragons Community Department has been working diligently to ensure that its comprehensive package of community initiatives is delivered throughout the Region. To this end, we must acknowledge the support from our sponsors that enables us to facilitate the activities and their commitment that allows us to develop and progress our programmes.

Newport City Council has always been at the forefront of adventurous educational ideas and have supported our initiatives from the start knowing that they deliver an exciting yet practical, sporting and social development of the youngsters within the Dragons region.

In the support of grass root development our major sponsors Warburtons and Uskmouth Power are exceptionally proactive. Both companies take great pride in their involvement by boosting the educational opportunities of the kids within the city. They are prepared to go the extra mile in ensuring the delivery of opportunity to all pupils throughout Gwent.

Further to this Finning Cat have once again extended their support to our successful Community Department by their continued commitment to our thriving Easter and Summer rugby skills camps that are held at Rodney Parade and around the whole Region. They admire our goals, and as such are pleased to accept the importance of our role in offering youngsters the opportunity to engage sporting achievements with life ambitions.

International Rectifiers are another company that have fully embraced our objectives and are committed to our delivery of educational and sporting ideals, their unique and innovative energy-measuring machine is now a permanent feature of the Second Half scheme.

The South Wales Fire & Rescue Service, Wilkinson and Melin Homes are also amongst our partners through their continued support of our sporting and educational programmes. Having visited the projects and seen at first hand the impact on the youngsters in the Region all these companies were eager to involved with our community initiatives to ensure that pupils could continue to participate in these unique and valuable experiences.

Adding to the flourishing affiliations at the Dragons, First Campus have pledged their support to the Region via a number of our community activities. First Campus is a partnership between higher education institutions, further education colleges and schools throughout South East Wales.

As a community department and a Region with ambitions, we have the drive to develop our initiatives to another level ensuring we keep a cars length in front of our rivals. With the support of our sponsors and White Dove SEAT who provide the vehicles to enable us to deliver these activities, we have been able to achieve this target and continue to keep our feet firmly on the accelerator.

Continuing of the education theme EOTAS (Education Other Than At School) have once again pledged their support to the Region in allowing us to provide youngsters with an opportunity to participate in a structured educational, motivational and sporting out of school learning experience at Rodney Parade.

Speaking on the sponsorship of the community department a beaming projects manager Mike Sage said,

“I am delighted to head up such a professional and hard working team that has consistently delivered everything that has been asked of it.

Janice Chappell was the first and the original female development officer and she remains as keen today as she was when she started over 7 years ago.

Phil James our education officer was plucked from the teaching profession and has proved invaluable in his many various roles for the Dragons.

We recognise the importance of our partners input and have developed quality relationships with them all and we look forward to their continued support in the future to ensure our vision and impact is maximised”

Many thanks to all our sponsors – your support really does make a difference.
