Dragons players Tal Selley and Phillip Dollman will be at Machen RFC tomorrow evening as they launch their brand new set of training floodlights to the delight of their mini and junior teams who now cater for rugby players from Under 7s to Under 14s.
Machen have committed to cranking up the power both on and off the pitch this season with the senior 1st XV closing in on promotion once again at second place in Division Four East.
Machen Club Secretary Roger Blenkiron is delighted the with the new developments at the club this season. He said:
"Machen RFC is going from strength to strength. Thanks to our local WRU Development Officers and Sports Council Wales who have helped us install this second set of floodlights, we can carry on with our ambitious development plans here at Machen."
The newly installed Machen Director of Rugby Paul Crowley added:
"With the growth in our mini and junior teams and with just one floodlit pitch we were struggling to find time and space for all our players to train and play properly. We feared that we might have to stop adding to our new teams each season as we have been doing in recent seasons. But now with two floodlit pitches and a total of some 20 other acres of playing fields at our disposal, we have arguably the best training facilities in the entire Dragons region and can carry on growing and developing players for Machen, the Dragons and Wales."
Mini & Junior rugby spokesman Richard Hicks acknowledged the foresight and ambition of Machen RFC. He said:
"Here at Machen we are growing from the "bottom up", adding a new team in the youngest age-group each season. We are always on the lookout for new players in all groups from 7-14 years and all are welcome regardless of ability. All Mini & Junior rugby training sessions take place at 6pm on Wednesdays: just turn up with your boots, join in and make new friends."
